The real culprit of us damaging your ears with our so-called music is Andreas.
I met Andreas way back, in 2015. In an entrepreneurship bootcamp called Founder Institute. I really liked that bootcamp. We used to meet every Wednesday at Startup Mexico for the week´s workshop and then go get some drinks or tacos. The intensity of the workshop and the relaxation and laughter of the after-event really helped create personal bonds between us, the usual suspects were Adolfo, Alice, Andreas, Marcial, Mariela, Pepe Toño, and me.
To keep seeing each other we created a social club called Juevebes (Thursday+Drinks) That way we kept seeing each other well after we graduated.
Adolfo and I started mountain biking every Sunday at the Desierto de los Leones. MTB Sunday group that was very creatively called “Bici” (Bike). (Adolfo is the culprit that I got hooked into MTB)
There is something addictive about mountain biking. The combination of extenuating effort while climbing the trails in a gorgeous mountain forest with old and new friends. The adrenaline rush descending as fast as we could and finally the after-ride beers, quesadillas and tacos. What´s not to like. That really transformed my Sundays from a somehow depressing day to one of the best weekdays.
Some years later Andreas joined the Bici group and in a conversation that took place while climbing that he was taking guitar lessons and I mentioned that I used to make music when I was younger so he proposed that we should get together and play some time and, in some Thursday, mid-2023, Andreas showed up with his guitar.
That´s when the Jueveves turned onto music days. We composed a couple of songs. (Not to terrible according to our moms 😊 ) so we just kept on. And then there was Chema.
I met Chema at an MTB weekend bootcamp, but he went MIA for several months, maybe years. But as he was part of the “Bici” WhatsApp group. He finally started showing specially at the Thursday morning Chapultepec rides. That´s when I learned that he had a band called Santos Degollados (Beheaded Saints) and played guitar and bass guitar. Some Thursday we invited him to play and somehow decided to stick around.
The learning I get from this story is that when you are open to say yes to different experiences and create bonds with new people. life rewards you with fertile ground for great things to happen, the best things are always unexpected and surrounded by the people you care about.
Sincerely hope you liked the story of our beginnings and I wish for you to have a similar story in whatever it is that you are passioned about.
Stay tuned for more of our stories.
Julian.
